Service Hours

Family service hours are an essential piece to the success of the BAVA season.  Each family is required to contribute in some capacity to their daughter's team.  Positions will be discussed at the Season Orientation Meeting on December 4.  Sign-ups will take place online and will run December 4-7, 2011.

Each family will need to complete 10 service hours.  8 of those hours will be for a specific job for the team.  The other 2 hours will come from helping out at BAVA hosted tournaments.  Failure to complete all ten service hours will result in an additional $250 in dues to be paid on March 31, 2012.

Team Position Descriptions

The positions below are required for the teams listed next to each position.

Parent Representative - required for all teams
Communicate information from the coaches and age group coordinator to players and parents.  Assist coaches and board members with paperwork.  Facilitate communication between parents on the team.  Send reminders about important team events.  Coordinate team gatherings throughout the season.

Uniform and Tournament Volunteer Coordinator - required for all teams
Sort and distribute uniforms, balls, and bags to each player.  If anything in the order is wrong or damaged, compile the information and send to Club Commissioner for correction.  Uniforms are delivered in early January.  Sorting times for uniform volunteers: Friday, Jan 6, 5:30-7:30pm and Wednesday, Jan 11 6-8pm, both at SPCC.  Uniforms will be delivered to the teams by the uniform volunteer.

Ensure each family is signed up to accumulate the required 2 hours at BAVA hosted tournaments.  Coordinate with other team volunteer coordinators that are attending the same BAVA tournaments to ensure coverage for t-shirt sales, set-up, and clean-up.  Coordinate with tournament directors what is needed at each tournament facility.

Facilities Assistant - required for Riptide, Avalanche, Cyclones, Waves (not needed for other teams)
Raise and lower the basketball backboards at Annapolis Area Christian School before and after your daughter's practice time.  This position will be shared with another parent whose daughter will be practicing at the same time on a different team.  This position involves some strength.

Chaperones - required for teams traveling to MLK (Riptide, Breakers); Shamrock (Riptide, Breakers, Blaze); and Happy Volley (Riptide, Breakers, Avalanche, Blaze, Cyclones, Waves, Storm, Thunder)
It is a requirement for each team to have 2 chaperones for each travel tournament.  Chaperones are responsible for players at all times when they are not on the court.  BAVA will pay for chaperone accommodations.  Not all teams will need chaperones during the season.  This position requires a background check through Anne Arundel County.  Only females can chaperone at the Happy Volley tournament.  Couples (husband/wife) are allowed to chaperone at the MLK and Shamrock tournaments.

Scorekeeper/Referee Clinics Coordinators - required for Waves, Storm, Thunder, Twisters, and Quakes
Attend the scorekeeping/referee clinic held in December.  Coordinate players’ clinic attendance.  Oversee players’ and coaches completion of the certification process. (Instructions can be found on the website).  To be able to attend tournaments, each team must have 4-5 certified scorekeepers and 1-2 certified referees.  Parents will NOT keep score at the tournaments, players will!  This volunteer's main responsibility is to ensure each team has qualified scorekeepers and referees.  This position requires a background check through Anne Arundel County.

BAVA Hosted Tournament Help – required for all BAVA families on all teams
All BAVA families will help with BAVA Hosted Tournaments throughout the season.  We will need help with set-up, clean-up, t-shirt sales, etc.  In addition to your main position on your daughter’s team, all families will help with at least one BAVA tournament.

The following positions can be combined where appropriate for teams with limited number of families due to chaperone responsibilities:

Club Fundraiser Committee - need 4-5 parents from the club
Assist the fundraiser chairperson in the organization of the BAVA Concert Night (sponsors, ticket sales, advertising, promotion, etc.)  The event is scheduled for February 4, 2011 at The Whiskey in Annapolis.  This fundraiser benefits all families in BAVA.

Team Fundraiser Coordinator
Teams have the option of doing individual fundraisers to directly benefit the families on the team.  Brainstorm and coordinate fundraisers for any players who are interested in participating.  All fundraisers must be approved by BAVA.  Team fundraisers are completely separate from the BAVA Concert Night.

Publicity Representative
Contact local newspapers, community publications, and cable channels to publicize BAVA events, tournaments and team results.  Send team tournament summaries to website manager to be posted after each tournament.  Contact information for local publications and sample write-ups are available upon request!

The positions below are not specific to a team, but rather, one family is needed for each of these positions from the club.  The volunteer can come from any team:
